The face shields developed and manufactured by NMPCE in response to COVID-19 have received an overwhelmingly positive response from staff within NUTH, including a thank you card from the Renal Outpatients Department!
The face shield has been modified to widen the visor, and allow for the visor to be clipped in to the side of the headband, offering additional coverage to the side of the face.
Further pre-compliance testing is underway by NMPCE, including testing of the area of coverage, and stability at elevated temperature. NMPCE are looking into providing child-friendly inserts (colourful images) that can be slotted onto the headband to make the PPE less intimidating for paediatric patients.
The modified design is currently being reviewed by the anaesthetics, cancer research, nuclear medicine and infection, prevention and control teams. The next step will be to provide samples of the face shield and the technical file to the notified body in order to achieve certification.
